Santa Barbara, Managua, and Addis Ababa

A One-Man Exhibition of Watercolors by Mike Rider

Show will run February 6 through April 25, 2014,
with an artist’s reception on 1st Thursday, February 6th from 5 to 8 pm

"Capturing the delights of everyday life in watercolor has become my passion," says Mike Rider. The light and warm colors of Santa Barbara, reflected in favorite places, such as the harbor, city, beaches, and landscapes, are portrayed in transparent watercolor rendered in realistic detail.

Mike's colorful and pleasantly inviting paintings extend well beyond Santa Barbara, exploring and finding the beauty in these remote reaches, while furthering a worthwhile cause for his daughters abroad.

Being the father of two daughters, local girls now living in Managua, Nicaragua, and the other in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Mike has chosen to donate all proceeds from the sales of his paintings of these areas to each daughter’s respective charitable organization.
The “ Nika Collective” in Nicaragua was founded by daughter Kori to combat childhood malnutrition, neglect, and  abandonment through the creation of jobs for women, child health care  and education programs.
“ Steadfast Love” in Ethiopia, focuses on orphans through daughter Brittany’s adoption of two children, joining with other organizations  that rescue women from prostitution, also  through job creation.
