Paintings by Sharon Schock

"Leadbetter Cliff"

Working both in plein air and her studio, this gifted young Westmont graduate completes a painting a day, done " alla prima", or in one session. Fascinated by the way light hits her subject matter, she turns ordinary scenes into dramatic ones with her unique and personal views of Santa Barbara and Carpinteria's landscapes. Using loose brushwork infused with bold colors, she explores local beach, harbor and urban scenes. She is as adept in capturing people in natural and casual poses as she is with her charming fruit and vegetable still lifes; as wells as sea-bird vignettes. To quote Sharon, "When I paint I want the result to be clear and present. Instead of striving to make a copy of what I see, I want to simplify the whole in order to amplify the one thing that's best about itů it's color or it's light or it's shape . I also want my paintings to give a sense of structure and detail while still maintaining the character of the individual brushstrokes. " Sharon's crisply realistic paintings seem to emanate an inner glow through colors that vibrate together. Her divinely-inspired work indeed reflects a happy outlook on life and a true appreciation to live in such a beautiful place.
